A 24-year-old former Mountain View man pleaded not guilty Thursday to an alleged rape in Hilo in late July.

A 24-year-old former Mountain View man pleaded not guilty Thursday to an alleged rape in Hilo in late July.

Hilo Circuit Judge Greg Nakamura ordered Thomas Alexander Marsello to stand trial at 9 a.m. Feb. 2.

Marsello is charged with three counts of first-degree sex assault, plus kidnapping, third-degree sex assault and fourth-degree sex assault.

Marsello, who was indicted by a Hilo grand jury on Sept. 9, gave police a Paia, Maui, address when he turned himself in Thursday.

A bench warrant set his bail at $150,000 but Marsello’s attorney, Mirtha Oliveros, successfully argued to lower Marsello’s bail to the original $30,000 he posted when originally charged for the alleged offense, court records indicate.

Marsello is free awaiting trial. The judge ordered him to have no contact with the alleged victim, an adult woman.
